CCAMLR-2000 Synoptic Survey Post-cruise analysis

Modelling the spatial distribution of krill in the Scotia Sea

Sharon Hedley, Eugene Murphy, Mark Brandon, Roger Hewitt, Phil Trathan and Steve Reilly

Abstract

We explore the use of generalized additive models to identify features of the oceanographic environment which affect the spatial distribution of krill in the Scotia Sea. Iso-surface plots derived from the oceanographic variables allow prediction of the spatial density surface of krill from the fitted model within the survey region.
