Transects in relation to oceanic frontal boundaries
The major fronts of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) are identified,
as black lines from north to south, as Subantarctic Front (SAF), Polar
Front (PF), southern ACC Front (SACCF), southern ACC Boundary after Orsi
et al. (1995). The dotted black line represents the course of the PF according
to Trathan et al. (1997). The transects have been arranged to cover water
masses that are likely to have originated in both the Bellingshausen Sea
and the Weddell Sea.
