Table 4 summaries the damages and losses (in US dollars) caused by hurricanes Luis and Marilyn to the island of St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles in 1995. Data is provided for each economic and social sector. From the table, it can be seen that insurance reimbursement covered less than 50% of the damages sustained by the island's infrastructure. The production sectors (commerce, tourism and other) experienced the heaviest financial losses.
