The TSUNAMI Initiative
Although the common withdrawal of the sea prior to a tsunami is often regarded as the main warning of its arrival, this is of little practical use since by that stage the time remaining to take emergency actions (minutes at most) is generally too limited for all but the most basic of these to be effective. In recent years, however, organised tsunami warning systems have been put in place on local, regional and international scales.
