The Global Geospace Science (GGS) mission
The Global Geospace Science (GGS) mission is aimed at quantifying the behaviour of the coupled
solar-wind/magnetosphere/ionosphere system. This whole-system approach requires coordinated
study of the main sources and sinks for plasma, and the means by which energy is transmitted,
converted and dissipated. Thus the ethos of GGS is the synergism that results from bringing
together multi-point in situ spacecraft observations with simultaneous ground-based
observations, combined with theory and simulation studies. When first conceived, the
GGS mission was unique amongst NASA projects in bringing together these elements from the
outset.
