AGO Optical Instruments

A single wavelength photometer was installed on the Halley AGO in February 1993. It utilises a photomultiplier tube to measure the intensity of the 630.0 nm emission within ±3 of the zenith. An integration time of 10 s is used, and measurements will be made every minute. The sensitivity of the instrument is within the range 20 R-40 KR.

It is intended to deploy eventually all-sky, multi-wavelength CCD imaging systems on the AGOs. These are expected to make observations to within 20 of the horizon at 630.0 and 427.8 nm. The lowest detectable intensity will be 100 R. Images will be taken once a minute.
