Information about UASD Research

We carry out cutting-edge research into the outermost part of the Earth's environment, known as Geospace.

We do this by:

  • using Antarctica as a platform from which to remotely sense geospace with radio and optical experiments,
  • participating in spacecraft missions which complement our Antarctic measurements,
  • developing theories and numerical models to explain our observations,
  • participating in national and international research collaborations.
Our overall research theme is energy flow and dissipation in geospace.
It is organised into three programmes which have been approved by independent review.
The programmes run from April 1995 until March 2000 and are vetted by a committee of our peers each year.
