Peer Review Group Committee
Peer Review Group Committee

All BAS science programmes are subjected to peer review by an independent group of U.K. and international scientists. There is one Peer Review Group (PRG) for each major science field. Each PRG normally has five members who are selected by the Polar Sciences and Technology Board (PSTB) of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) to serve for five years.

The peer review begins with an evaluation of each programme before BAS decides whether to proceed with it. Then the PRG review the progress of the selected programmes annually over their five year lifetime. The PRG reports its findings at each stage through the PSTB to the Council. By this means, Council monitors the quality and performance of the BAS programmes.
