Autumn MIST meetings

Audio visual facilities

The following information has been provided by the Geological Society about the audio visual equipment provided in their lecture room at Burlington House London - the venue for the autumn MIST meetings.

BURLINGTON HOUSE
LECTURE THEATRE AUDIO VISUAL EQUIPMENT
The Geological Society require that only our qualified technicians may operate the audio visual equipment when using the Lecture Theatre.

The Lecture Theatre is fully equipped with a state of the art PC and projection facilities. The LCD projector has been professionally set to the correct level of resolution, which can not be altered (the screen resolution is 800 by 600 pixels and the colour is high colour - 16 bit). The LCD Projector uses Microsoft Office 97 and has the following facilities:

Presentations can be downloaded from floppy disc, CD or the Zipdrive, or if speakers prefer they can use their own laptops - it is imperative that speakers bring a copy on disc as back up.

The speaker can control the presentations from the lectern by using the infra red laser control mouse pad. The mouse allows presenters to forward or move back slides as and when they require. Alternatively, the projectionist can also control the presentation on the speakers’ behalf.

Slide Projectors

There are two 35mm slide projectors available for use in the Lecture Theatre. The projectors can work together for a dual presentation; alternatively one projector can be used in conjunction with an OHP presentation. The slide projectors can be used to present in a variety of ways for example alternate slide viewing.

The projectors use round slide carousels. The Geological Society can provide spare carousels upon request.

Over-head Projectors

There are two over-head projectors available for use in the Lecture Theatre. The projectors can be used together for a dual presentation.

Projection Screen

The screen is 4 metres wide by 2.5 metres high and covers the front stage of the Lecture Theatre. The projectionist can control the tilt of the screen (from the projection room) to improve the clarity of the image that is being viewed. Alternatively the speaker can also control the screen. The screen can be moved to pre-set tilt, which can be stopped at any level.

Microphones

All speakers must wear the lapel microphone at all times during their presentations. The lapel microphone clips on to the lapel or pocket or a speaker. Once the speaker has moved away from the lectern they will not be heard unless they are wearing the lapel microphone and ensure it is switched on.

There is a microphone permanently attached to the lectern and once this has been turned on, to the speaker it will sound as if the microphones are switched off, this is owing to the new technology of the sound panels.

There is a handheld microphone available for use throughout the Lecture Theatre. This is mainly used for question times, so that the speakers can hear the precise questions being asked. It is also especially useful if the lecture is being recorded.

Loud Panel Speakers

The static Loud Panel NXT speakers create a full spectrum of sounds. No matter where you are seated in the Lecture Theatre, the volume will sound exactly the same. The Loud Panel has a small transducer that vibrates the panel with a music signal. The panel then acoustically amplifies the sound to normal listening levels.

Cassette Tape Deck

All lectures can be recorded onto cassette on the machine which is situated in the projection room. The tape recording will automatically be taken from the lectern, lapel and handheld microphones. Please provide your own cassette tapes.

VHS Video

The video player in the projection room only has the play facility. The machine accepts all types of video world-wide and also has a facility to playback videos from America.

Lighting

There is a small non-removable light on the podium, which works by twisting the top. The light can also be adjusted to the level of height and also the level of brightness that the speaker would prefer.

There are panels near the lectern and by the entrance to the Lecture Theatre to control the lighting. There are various settings including pre-set levels, a single podium light and lighting for when the audio-visual equipment is in use. The projectionist has a more advanced version of the panel in the projection room and will automatically set the lighting at all stages of your conference.

Poster Boards

We have a total of 12 poster boards available for hire. The boards inter-link and can be set in a variety of positions for the best possible display system for your exhibition.

Dimensions: Width 1 metre, Height 2.25 metres Please note that the boards are not free standing and must therefore stand in pairs or multiples thereof.
