The Halley dynasonde has been in operation since 1982. It is based on a NOAA HF radar, and was upgraded
in 1988 to PC control architecture. It is one of 6 similar ionospheric sounders around the world, the
other operational instruments being based at Tromso and Utah. The Halley dynasonde is a routine contributor to the NASA GGS project. project and also provides measurements for specific research projects.
