Scientists and support staff at the British Antarctic Survey Halley Research Station enjoyed a 'mad hatters' teaparty and some outdoor pursuits in Antarctica to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee today (Monday 4 June).

The group of 14 wintering staff enjoyed a quintessentially British afternoon tea complete with tea cups and saucers and a specially made union flag battenburg cake. The dining room was dressed with flags and bunting and staff dressed up for the occasion. After their tea the group wrapped up warm to head outside into the darkness in 35 knot winds to have a game of croquet and cricket.
